This is a fabulous new property in Istanbul, just steps from all the major attractions of Sultanahmet (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Yerebetan Cistern, Topkapi Palace), short walk to the Grand Bazaar. I have stayed in many older, "boutique" hotels in Istanbul in converted Ottoman mansions, many of which are very charming, but often they come with the quirks of older city hotels (I.E., street noise, no a/c in summer, older plumbing, two twin beds pushed together being considered a "double bed"). This hotel is absolutely new, fantastic showers, great bedding and linens (even a true King bed), sound-proofed windows, a/c (sometimes rare in older hotels in Istanbul), state of the art tv (even an in- screen "fireplace" to cozy up the room for a romantic evening), and we could lay in bed with a fantastic view of the lighted Hagia Sophia at night (not just a peek out a window, the entire wall is plate glass). And all at an unbelievable price (we booked room-only, didn't want to pay for a huge hotel breakfast when we could go down the street for a pastry and tea and that was pretty much all we needed before setting off for the day). Staff is lovely. When people find out about this place it is going to be hugely popular.
It is absolutely great, nothing not to like. I would, however, not recommend booking the hotel's offered transportation from Ataturk Airport (the manager sent us a nice note before our trip asking if we'd like transportation). At 50 euros for 1-3 people (120 Turkish Lira, or abour $75), it is far higher than you would pay for a taxi. In bad traffic, we paid an average of 45 Turkish Lira, including tip, which is about 20 euros (around $28). We went back and forth 4 times, since we did a mini-trip from Istanbul and back during our stay, and the most we paid was 50 tl. This is not a criticism, just a travel tip.
The hotel staff members were all very professional, courteous and very attentative. As always in the past, the Crown Plaza has continued to be a premier choice for my accommodations. I was very happy to see that an exemplary hotel like the Crown Plaza Old City Istanbul exists were it is. It is the perfect location to enjoy the entire local area. I plan to return there next year with my family for another vacation. Great job as always. Sincerely, Gregory M. Masood
The hotel is new and has great rooms and friendly efficient staff. It is the only really nice hotel in the "Old City" and is close to everything, including the light rail which can bring you easily to other parts of this great city! Our room had a perfect view of the Hagia Sophia. As they are newly opened there are some "punch list" items that need addressing but this hotel gets a thumbs up.
Elevator access is strange as it delivers you "in-between" the floors and you then must then walk up or down a short flight of stairs to get to the room floors. There is a small elevator in the restaurant that will deliver you directly on the floors. This is a small inconveinence considering all the plus'S.
The staff manipulated me to cancel the Booked.net reservation after I had found out that other people were paying much less per night per room. i was supposed to get a better rate for the rest of my days. However, as soon as i cancelled the rest of the days, the reception manager came up with rediculous prices that i could stay in the best top hotels in Istanbul. sure enough, I checked out and booked in a 5star reputable hotel for the rest of my stay.
It's a very nice hotel, clean and in the centre.
Being with a baby I was using a baby stroller, the hotel did not have ramp to use, we were struggling up and down the staircase. The reception was big but few seats for waiting. No hangers found in the toilet for the towels and the TV was behind a big glass what made it impossible to watch at day time with the blinds up.
Comfortable bed; good air-conditioning; wonderful shower; excellent location; great view of Hagia Sophia from restaurant terrace,
We booked a more expensive corner room, which was supposed to have a good view of Hagia Sophia. However, the view was completely blocked. Insufficient height in wardrobe to hang dresses or trousers.
The staff were always friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The hotel location is excellent. All of Istanbul's best attractions are within walking distance. We will stay there again at the price we paid which was very good value for money.
The dining facilities were too small for the size of the hotel.
Location, modern interior design, modern lobby, helpful staff,
No swimming pool, breakfast needs to have more choices, staff need to look after guests when it comes to booking a taxi such as a 1.to only book a taxi with a taxi meter 2.to tell the driver to switch on the meter 3.where the guests are going 4.how much to expect to pay 5.and to take a note of the taxi driver (car). Very often tourists are ripped off by taxi drivers. You also need to address this problem with your taxi authorities. Coffee in the hotel too expensive.
Looks all very modern today, but may be outdated in five years' time. Not completely finished (and will not be finished either? - eg paint) Staff are friendly but theit advice is not always accurate (eg bus connections etc) and too commercial
Great location. Excellent view from the double rooms overlooking Hagia Sofia. Good size room. Excellent internet service
Poor lighting. Air conditioning system out of control. Lack of housekeeping supervision (my room remained unserviced for two days until protested loudly). Staff will recommend tourist traps as good restaurants. If and when they clean up their act, it will be a good choice for Sultanahmet.
Location…location...location…! The hotel is designed with a new interpretation of modern Turkish with clean lines in white and a bit of wood…..refreshing after a full day of elaborate mosques and the Grand Bazaar.
After a lengthy email back-and-forth prior to arrival, we didn't get the room what we asked for, even with the additional cost agreed upon. I wish the hotel staffs have more knowledge of the practical things and know exactly where things are within the city. For a hotel with that standard, sending us to a touristy restaurant under the bridge is unacceptable, really.
New, clean, convenient, at superb location. Helpful staff recommended pleasant nearby restaurant.
Ambitous but goofy and pretentious, overly glitzy design. Lighting in the room was poor- it was impossible to read in bed. Lighting in the bathroom was inadequate for doing makeup, and very unflattering.
Very nice place: view of Hagia Sophia from the window, two steps to Sophia, cistern basilica, Blue mosque. The building situated not by the street, but across the yard (about 60m away). Very good citchen in restorant. The room (1315 - corner room) is big enough. Fantastic - TV is the part of big mirror.
Backlight outside the window lights to eyes in the night, small opening of windows. Price is big enough.
Excellent location, very good service from friendly and competent staff, plenty of light, views excellent, good spaces.
Price a bit high, not enough reading light, elevators a bit confusing, but you learn.
The room with a view to the main street was nice! Also, the location of the hotel is central. And, I would consider staying at this hotel again.
I would have liked the breakfast to be better. For example, a better variation such as bacon and eggs to be included and fresh juice, too!
